Trade Shows Key to Small Businesses

05/18/2009

Think it’s not financially viable to participate in trade shows in these economic times? You’re wrong, according to a recent article from The Wall Street Journal.

According to several experts, exhibiting at, or at the very least attending, industry trade shows is the smartest thing you can do right now for your business. Here’s why:

  • Trade shows provide essential exposure to potential customers
  • Trade shows are a learning experience for you – find out about new trends, visit your competition and hear what your customers want from your business
  • Attendees have buying power and the authority to spend

However, due to the expense of exhibiting, many corporations are opting out of trade shows: according to Trade Show Week magazine, 31 out of 240 businesses surveyed were not going to participate, up from 26 the year before. But this is good news for small businesses, as they will see less competition out on the floor.

How to make trade shows more affordable:

  • Split a booth with a complementary business
  • Buy used display materials
  • Bring your own booth furniture instead of renting
